It's mentioned on this web page as a Moskvitch 1500 M Pick-up. If that's right, however, max should still have the point because I wouldn't have spotted it unless he'd said it was a Moskvitch.

Thanks @re.  Mebbe I got it that time, mebbe not. 1975 cars had horizontal rear lights, older ones the vertical ones seen here.  It probably didn't apply to pickups, though. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moskvitch_2138 indicates that the vehicle could also have been called an IZH 2715.  Quite possibly more information than anyone should have to cope with.
