My first idea is an Alvis TA 14 convertible.....looking closer I see that the doors of the Alvis swing the wrong way...so I know the answer.

I don't know the cars history in that detail. I can tell you it's a US make, with somewhat unique coachwork.

The coachwork on this car is approximately two decades newer than the chassis.

This one almost drove me nuts:
O.K. not Australia, but New Zealand as Grob had guessed. Luckily for me they don't have that many car museums over there. I found it in Wellington.

It's a 1931 Stutz Bearcat,  rebodied in Te Awamutu by a Mr Martin Smith in the 1950s.
