SOLVED! Guess what! #5 - FSO factory tour microbus
« on: December 03, 2008, 01:29:22 PM »
You know the drill - tell me the make and model of the car below and you'll be awarded a point :)

This time a car that doesn't have it's particular modelname, so the manufacturer and the job this car was designed for, s'il vous plait.

It's not denial, I'm just very selective about the reality I accept.

Layout reminds me of the GAZ START (CTAPT) made for transporting delegations at START talks.  But that car had front engine, I believe.  Could this be a similar project, made for delegations to another Soviet exercise, like maybe Olympics?

I think it is a prototype bus based on FSO mechanicals, but I don't know whether it had any name.

Yes, it was made by FSO.
No, it doesn't have a modelname (as has already been stated in the introduction).
Now, what we're still missing is the purpose of this microbus.
It's not denial, I'm just very selective about the reality I accept.

The purpose was to transport FSO's or other officials through the factory territory?

It must have a purpose that calls for seeing low in front of the vehicle.  How about inspecting railroad or tram tracks?

Sorry, I was a bit busy :)

Yes, it's an FSO microbus (a one-off to my best knowledge) built for factory tours. A point for faksta!

Some more details (maybe it will be of use to anyone ;) ): It was built in 1978, could seat 7 or 8 people (depending on source). The glass front and parts of front doors were there to facilitate manoeuvring in tight spaces in the manufacturing halls. Also the roof was made of glass in great part. The car was rear-engined, fitted with a 1.1-litre, 55hp Zastava unit. Full independent suspension with coil springs.

It looks quite nice! A successful design IMHO.
