And now for something completely different. The engine in this tiny locomotive is from a quite ordinary automobile – can you identify which automobile?

That looks like a BMC (Austin/Morris) B series engine

i wonder.....

i stayed in a place in the north east of scotland called arbroath for a while, and there was a miniature railway called "kerr's miniature railway" there and, if i remember correctly, one of the "diesel" locos had a motor from (i think) a morris minor in it.  any chance this is it?

No sir - this a gasoline engine; not from an Austin.
