That is indeed a Packard front end.

Well, Packard racecars seem have been rare. An early postwar modified (although I couldn't find any with that roofline)?
In the meantime, here's a pic of another.

Aubrey raced stock cars under his racing number #542 all over Britain from 1955 to 1964. He won the world championship in 1957, and was infamous for his "destroyer" cars powered by V-12 Packard engines, eventually banned.
