Well, this german "S" registration stands for Stuttgart. So this may have been a Mercedes or Porsche special project. But I have no clue what it was.

The body is quite wide and it is short. The tiny wheels look strange.... :-\

There was a Volkswagen prototype built by Porsche with the engine lying flat under the rear seat, am not sure of its type number.
This happened in that panic when they (at last) realised that the Beetle would not last forever.
