In the Spotlight: Graywolf
Today's Spotlight interview is with AutoPuzzles member Graywolf. He gives us a
glimpse into what makes him tick, car-wise.
AP: Tell us
about yourself and when you became interested in cars?
I don’t know when,
where or how it started. As far back as I remember I have loved muscle cars. The
affection has spread to almost anything someone has really put an effort into.
AP: What was your first car?
75 Impala 2bbl 350. Blew a
couple of engines before getting rid of it.
AP: What is your daily
driver?
2005 Silverado with a turn radius of a Mac truck!
AP: What classic(s) or special cars do you currently
have?
Looking…Last one was a 1978 J10. I had to make room for the new
baby so I sold it for pocket change.
AP: What made you choose
to buy it?
Wanted to go play off road and I have always liked the
aggressive look of the SJs.
AP: Have you ever just missed
buying a particular car, and lived to regret it?
There was a Camaro I was
borrowing the money to buy and it sold a couple of days before I had the cash. I
think it was a 68 that was rebuilt by a drag racer. Sub 10 in the quarter.
AP: What would be your dream car?
Too many to choose!
They are all dreams at this point.
AP: Which car do you
regret having parted company with?
1997 Tbird. I totaled it on an icy
bridge.
AP: What is your favorite drive in your classic or
special car?
Since I don’t currently have one, it would depend on the
car…a sporty number would be on a twisty, rural, deserted road, 4X4 would be on
a muddy trail and pretty much anything else would be cruising around. I just
love to drive.
AP: How much work on your car(s) do you carry
out yourself?
As much as I can. I don’t do the mundane stuff like oil,
just because I don’t have a flat spot at my house to do it.
AP:
What do you carry with you go out in your car(s)?
I don’t have my
CCW, yet.
AP: Do you get involved in the club scene, and
why?
Sometimes, it tends to be a good source of information and parts. I
tend to lean towards the less respected vehicles (SJs, late 60s Cougars, AMC) so
parts and info are tough to come by sometimes.
AP: Do you
take an interest in motor sport, and if so where is your favorite venue(s)/club
meeting(s)?
I used to like NASCAR, but they have squeezed all the stock
out of the cars and they have gotten so homogenized to where you can’t tell one
make from another. NHRA is a fun day at the track, but it just isn’t the same on
TV.
I have been prodded into following F1 this season…We’ll see where
that leads.
AP: What is your worst memory involving a
car?
My mom had an affinity for red velour interiors. Something in the
red velour, I don’t know if it is the dye or what, will give me a migraine with
the slightest whiff.
AP: What is your funniest memory
involving a car?
I don’t really know why it is so funny to me, but I was
sitting in a left turn lane with my best friend and wasn’t paying attention when
the arrow came on. James said, “waitin’ on the Indians?”.
AP:
What is your most enjoyable moment involving a car?
This is a PG
board, right? Let's just say it involved a back seat and a beautiful
girl…
AP: Best road food?
Greasy cheeseburger!
AP: How would you define a 'classic'?
Anything where
the style is/will be admired for decades.
AP: What in your
opinion, is the worst car regarded as a 'classic' and why?
Pacer. I just
don’t get the styling, although, luxury SUV makers are imitating it to this
day.
AP: What in your view will be a future
classic?
Magnum/Charger. Challenger concept and Camaro if they hit the
showrooms and aren’t mechanical nightmares.
AP: What
question would you like to ask and who to?
To the boards of GM &
Ford, “What do you not understand about the success of the
300/Magnum/Charger?”
AP: What car publications / car websites
do you regularly read?
Autopuzzles.com. C&D (until Bedard
left).
