Renault 4CV based 1953 V.P. (Vernet Pairard). This number 56 was used at the 24 heures du Mans in 1953.

So far so good, everything you've told me is correct. It does have a model name tho. So I'll make this puzzle exclusive to you for 48 hours so you can get it.

Some sites give Vernet Pairard VP1064 Coupé, others just Le Mans or Renault 4CV Coach Vernet Pairard Type R1062 1954 (but that's rather the civilian version)...

Google gives much more results for this exact car with the name VP1064 then it does with the name I had in mind (Vernet Pairard 166R). With that in mind although you havn't got the model name I was after it seems only fair to give you the point, especially since I got the cars name from an internet source in the first place. Chances are it was referred to by both names at some point...
So...Well done and one point 2U.
