Oh, so close.  Yes, it is a Porsche prototype by Wendler, but not based on a 356C.  If you can come up with the basis of this car and when it was built that matches the documentation I have, I'll give you the point.

Puzzle locked until Monday morning (9:00am US Pacific time).

Well, at least you got the year I had in the documentation I have. The documentation says that it was built on a 356A Cabriolet chassis with 356B bits added. But, that's kind of splitting hairs so I'll give you the point.    ;D

There is also some disagreement in the material I found, so it's unclear when the car was actually built. Some sources say 1957 and other say 1959-60.

Here is the material I found along with some pictures of the car in happier times.

Here are some more pictures of the car as it looked in 2007.  The guy who found it lives in Atlanta, GA.  He contacted the Porsche Museum for information about the car that could help him restore it.  They had nothing and thought the car had been destroyed.  They were happy to discover that it was intact, albeit in very bad shape.

Always remember to keep the shiny side up and the greasy side down.

The guy who now owns the car refers to "Porsche 356 Driving in its Purest Form" by Dirk-Michael Conrad.
