It is a Maserati 'Special Sports'; the unique body was built in the early fifties by L. C.  Bohman, son of the co-founder of  the famous Bohman & Schwartz coachbuilder firm.

Yes, correct!

My understanding is that it was built for Rosan Engineering - is that your information?

I believe this car should be re-titled as an RE-Maserati built by Foreign Motors of Newport Beach CA in 1956.

The RE stands for Rosan Enterprises, the parent company of Foreign Motors at the time.
It was originally fitted with a 1500cc Maserati engine that was replaced by a Bristol engine after a few West Coast races in a search for more power. A bonnet scoop was added to accommodate the taller Bristol engine.
The chassis was a 2in. tubular frame with Fiat 1500 front suspension and quarter-elliptics at the rear.

Bodywork was hand-crafted in aluminium by Chris Bohman (son of the co-founder of the well-known US coachbuilder Bohman & Schwartz). The car was believed to be a 'one-off'.

Last reports of the existence of this car was a sighting in Samson's Auto Salvage yard in Los Angeles in 1972.
The car was reported to be in battered condition.

Does anyone have more information or more photos?

I should also note that this was done by Lawrence Christian "Chris" Bohman for client Rosan Engineering.

Chris was the son of Christian Bohman, one half of the firm Bohman & Schwartz. The partnership of Christian Bohman and Maurice Schwartz ended in 1947. Christian Bohman named his new firm C. Bohman & Son. When Christian died in February of 1950, his son Chris took over the firm but retained the name C. Bohman & Son.
