Somthing very AMC-ish about this creature......

Uhh, well......I dunno. Looks like it might have been derived from a Gremlin after someone in Kenosha spent the weekend piloting a dune buggy!  And perhaps imbibing some stimulating spirits as well!    ;D

Upon further review, as we say in football, it has some Jeep-like elements to its styling and Jeep was part of AMC for a while before the whole lot was unloaded on Chrysler who passed in on to Mercedes Benz, which is intesting because Mercedes at one time had a production link with Studebaker to build MB's here in the US.  In fact, for decades, the front sway bar links and bushings in most MB products were derived from Studebaker parts and the seat pedestals in the Cherokee originally came from the Renault Alliance.

The whole thing is rather incestuous and thinking about it makes my head hurt.

So I will revert to my original observaton that there is something very AMC-ish about this vehicle!    ;)

To clarify, Studebaker did not become part of AMC. However, Studebaker/Packard designer Dick Teague went on to head design at AMC, so there are a Kevin Baconesque few degrees of separation.

Dan

Yes sir!

This 1970 4x4 sports car concept carried the model number XJ001, a decade before the new Cherokee was designated as the "XJ." Two slightly different designs were tried on the two sides of the fiberglass body  which was mounted on a CJ-5 frame with the Dauntless V6 engine. The concept car, also referred to as the "Cowboy," was displayed at car shows for a couple of years until it was destroyed in a trucking accident. An XJ002 was also built, on a Commando V6 chassis, with a plastic "T" roof; its fate is unknown.

Well, I never SAID that Studebaker became part of AMC, now did I?

Of course, I never said they DIDN'T either.    ;D
