What's this car said to be (which is not necessarily the same thing as what it actually is..) - for 1 point?:

Maserati A6GCS or something similar?

Probably, yes.
But that doesn't answer the puzzle!

Sorry to be a nuisance, but I'm a bit confused by the puzzle. The puzzle image appears to be an illustration from a period magazine, and it looks awfully like an "interim" Maserati A6GCS, the model between the original cycle-wing car, and the later all-enveloping bodied ones.

Your question suggests not - are you saying this is a different car altogether, or that someone has built a fraudulent copy?  Sorry to be a bit naughty and fish for clues !

You're not a nuisance!  It's just a bit of fun.  The picture clearly shows a Maserati, but there is a website which claims it is something else entirely (along with other well-known cars).

So you need to find that website and tell me what they say this car is!

Many thanks. Message understood.

Is this an illustration from a comic strip or other book of entertainment? (This is a serious question, not sarcasm!)

No, the picture comes from a website and is nothing to do with books or comics.

I'm quite confused too...I understand that the picture actually shows a Maserati Interim A6 GCS, not a car that looks like a Maserati!  But we are requested to find the site where the car is described as something else...perhaps with a wrong caption...?  I suppose the only way is to visit every site on the net, searching for this picture.  Can we have a little clue?

Nice to see I'm not the only one. This could take a looonnnggg time.

No clues yet.
It's hasn't been wrongly captioned; it's a site which gives names to various different cars including this Maserati, claiming they were made by them!  It's not fraudulent at all, just someone having some fun.

So I need the name this car has been given.  There are those on this site who seem to be able to make a direct hit on any website which gives the right answer with a bare minimum of information, hence no clues.

So this quiz would fit for "Site-puzzles"...a good challenge anyway: we have to search for a site about someone who pretends he builds cars like the one pictured, otherwise called, but it is not true!!! It sounds difficult. :o

There are those on here who have the knack of putting the right questions into Google to come up with the right answer.. If only I had that knack!

No, it's not Swiss.
I just visited the site again and it's all written very seriously with names, addresses etc, but I find it very hard to believe there's a word of truth in it!

Am I wrong ?  Was another car from yhis site puzzled here ?

targhediferro

I dug a lot about fakes, replicas and such disgusting things without result, but now I think it was a wrong path: I understand that the site we are looking for doesn't admit to built fakes, but pretend they are their own models with their names...using pictures of famous cars...is it right?

You must be.  The name has never appeared here on AP before.

That's right, yes.  I keep re-reading the site with some amazement, as they go into some detail about which cars they were based on, which engines would be used, even including prices and who bought certain cars!  Yet the whole thing can't be true; there is no mention of the name anywhere else on the entire 'net or in any of my books so it can't have been a real company which produced replicas otherwise it would be known..

Was this intended as a trap to catch those who use Google Search by Image?

The more you learn, the more you realise how little you know.

Interesting question, D-Type........................

Back in the day, the 1950's and early 1960's, my automotive interests were much different than they are today.

I was an avid reader and sometimes collector of just about every US automotive magazine of the era and if I could not afford to buy the magazine, I haunted my local grocery stores/book stores that stocked Road and Track, Motor Trend etc. etc.

This kind of vehicle is not, and has not, been something of interest to me since the late 1960's but I distinctly remember the photo, probably of the original car.  As I do not use SBI, I will never solve this puzzle, I am not even trying.

Not to be a "Grouch", but sometimes even "Carnut" goes a bit far in testing our knowledge.  Not often, but sometimes.

Hopefully, I am not offending anyone.

Bill
Cheers

You credit me with being more devious than I am..

I'm always on the lookout for new puzzles and am always a bit disappointed when they are easily solved.  But there are some extremely knowledgeable guys on this site and I know that almost whatever I post there's an expert in those on here and it'll get solved quite quickly.

But occasionally I stumble across a site and I think.. "What the heck is that?" and "Wow, what a difficult puzzle that would make!".  Sometimes I'm wrong and it's solved without a by-your-leave in minutes, but sometimes it's a real head-scratcher - something I've certainly never heard of and which is only on one source in the entire world..

Those who don't want to take part in this one needn't Bill - there's absolutely no obligation.
But as I keep saying, there are puzzlers on this site who know exactly what words to key in to get exactly the result they want.  There is one guy from Venezuela who can get the most obscure Chinese repmobile which is only mentioned on one Chinese site instantly by just keying in the right thing...

I arrived at the site I got this from just by keying in certain words; whoever solves this will have done exactly the same thing.  There was no trickery and certainly nothing devious involved.  I'd like to think all my puzzles are a test, but a test of knowledge (or, I suppose, a test of how to use Google or Yahoo or whatever search engine is used), but certainly not a trap.  Although I abhor the use of Search by Image which is nothing other than cheating, I take few measures to defeat it as I credit all the regulars on this site with the integrity to play the game properly and if a newcomer comes along then it becomes fairly clear quite quickly whether he is knowledgeable, a tryer or a cheat.  I have to say at the moment I don't know of any current members who fit into the latter category.

Good hunting!

If it was, the trap has been switched off! I didn't think it was a trap, but I was waiting to see who would have guessed it to ask him how the hell he was able to...and I'm sure I would have some doubt even if, every day I'm astonished by the skilfulness of the most part of Experts and Professional, that's the best warranty they don't need SBI to give right answers.
