What's this and what is it based on, for 1 point?

Google Image Search continues to raise its ugly head on AutoPuzzles.
For the sake of our newer members who may not be aware of past discussions on it, Google Image Search as a means of solving puzzles is banned on this website.

AutoPuzzles is primarily a game of automotive knowledge, not of who can copy and paste the quickest.

We ask all members to remember and respect this, and retain the right to ask puzzle-solvers how they came to their answer.

Have fun!

The car looks very similar to Gianni Balzarini's Conrero 2000 of 1956.
Etceterinis are often difficult to pin down but I'll keep searching in the meantime.

It's an Alfa, so I wouldn't really describe it as an etceterini...

It looks like the Alfa-Conrero 2000 well known as the first Ghia Supersonic.
It was rebuilt later with this shape...

I was mistaken when I said this; there was a Conrero involvement with the original car.  My apologies.

That's the car all right, although I understood it started life as a 1900.
The story goes that one of Ghia's Swiss clients asked Conrero to create a car for the 1953 Mille Miglia.  Savonuzzi designed the shape of the car which was the first of the cars that became the "Supersonic" series by Ghia.
The engine was modified by Abarth and perfected by Conrero himself.
Unfoprtunately the car crashed in the race and was subsequently rebuilt into the puzzle car you see here instead.
Apparently it still exists today.

Is it the same car?
I didn't recognise the name Balzarini but if it's the same car I'll give woodinsight a point!

Looks very very similar, but is it the same?
The line of the rear of the front wheelarch looks slightly different;
also one has a faired headrest whilst the other one doesn't.
Any Alfa experts who can help?
