It's GAZ GL1 from 1938.
Russian race car, based on GAZ M1 which is basically  a Ford A clone

A clone maybe, but with some far out design.

Well.. GAZ A was not a clone, but a licensed copy.
As for the GL-1, I'll try to make some color pictures of its replica tomorrow - it is being shown for the first time these days.

Sorry, I didn't take any photos yesterday, so I'll post the one from the web. It is not from the exhibition, but from the car's presentation, which took place a little earlier.
Forgot to mention that it is actually a 1940 GL-1 - the car's second generation. The first one, indeed form 1938, was different. It is on a B&W photo here.

Of course, it couldn't be nothing but red. Thanks, faksta. I'll change the topic's title.

Well, to be honest, the GL-1 driver's son insists it was in a polished metal...

The driver himself, Arkady Nikolaev, was a very interesting person - he was a head of a successful expedition to Antarctica Pole of Inaccessibility (is it the right term?  :-\ ) in 1958.

There's also a whole website dedicated to this car and its replica - I have just found it: http://gl-1.ru/index.htm
