Solved - Name That Make #37: Cars!
« on: November 26, 2009, 12:35:46 PM »
Now, you may be saying, "Wait a minute, weird-user-name-guy... of course these are cars! Duh!" Yes, but what kind of "cars" are they? Some of them will be guessed easily, and once they are it will be obvious what I'm talking about. Some will not be guessed so easily, though...

Dewcar is correct! Gardner isn't (and doesn't fit the pattern)!

And the pattern is that there's the word 'cars' in the manufacturer's name. I can only hope that you choose only the English word: cars and not voitures, carros, gépkocsi etc.

Yes, only the English word... and the way "car" is used in the make names conforms to a certain rule. (Off the top, I don't think I've ever seen a make name that includes those non-English words.)

Car No03 is a Postal Buggy. The company was bought by the Buggy Car company in 1908 and sold as the Buggy Car model 1, piano box runabout.

And I wanted to ask: Car No10: could that be a Powercar?

Buggycar, Pullcar & Premocar are correct. (Am not familiar with that info on the "Buggy Car." I found that pic as a 1909 Buggycar, not a Postal Buggy.)

Powercar is not correct.

BTW, at this point I'd like to brag a little about my photo manipulation on the Dewcar & Pullcar. As with one puzzle I solved earlier (Medinger), the only photos of the makes that I knew of were as recognizable for the people in the cars as for the cars themselves. So, in order to keep the focus on the actual (Dew- & Pull-) cars, I took out the people -- using only Microsoft Paint! (Didn't take that long, either.)
