Riding Shotgun - Where's the Line?
By Ultra
Where is the
line?
Because we don't intend to cross it.
According to Wikipedia: Spamming in an internet
forum is when a user posts a message that is off-topic, has little relevance to
the subject being discussed, or is a post that fails to contribute to the
thread.
You've all seen forum spam. It is usually posted from some user with
a script of characters like "xkjt5sz." The homepage for this member takes
you directly to a pop-up filled porn site screaming $35 DOLLARS A MONTH, JOIN
NOW!!! in flashing graphics, all the while a trojan is filling and
trashing your computer unless your virus and security software are updated to
the hilt. Any messages posted by this new user will be completely
unrelated to the topic or forum where they are posted as well. It's
like a stranger dropping off a dead guy at the party. Definitely not
bringing anything positive to the room.
We here at AutoPuzzles.com have
made "Name that Car" posts, obviously an automotive specific topic, in various
automotive forums. We feel these posts contribute to the overall
discussion and enrich the forum where they are made. We do not believe it
is spam merely because we inform the people of the source of the information
within the post. Rather we believe it is crediting the souce, which is
considered proper. Whether those forum members reading our post choose to
continue the game in their own forum, raid this site for more puzzles for their
forum, or join in the with the puzzlers here, it is up to them. See, we
don't have anything to sell. Heck, we don't even have ads on our
site! We're just here to share our enthusiasm for the automobile, the
culture that has grown around it, and it's impact on society. We have fun
and try to solve AutoPuzzles and we write articles themed about our love for all
things automotive. We don't do it for money. We do it because we
love automobiles and we want to share our enthusiasm with other, like minded
individuals.
With all of this in mind, please forgive us if
you feel we trespassed when we asked you if you recognized the latest
AutoPuzzle.com featured puzzle. We thought you might enjoy seeing a
vintage automobile. We even thought you might like to be that one
and only person who knew what it was and answered correctly. I know I
would like to be that person a lot more often than I am.
Hope to see you around the site,
Charlie O
